In Australia, there are more than 250 Indigenous languages including around 800 dialects. Languages are living things that connect people to Country, culture, and ancestors.

The Indigenous languages across Australia each have their own unique cultural expression related to Flora and Fauna native animals, and Freshwater and Saltwater marine life, the ancient dreaming creations over thousands of years. Before the arrival of Europeans, Aboriginal languages were not written down. Aboriginal dialects were first put into writing in the late 1930s.

Indigenous languages are not written languages, the words represented are created from the English vocabulary and have multiple ways of being spelled and pronounced.
