The Little Corroborree Frog gently introduces the serious plight of one of Australia’s most endangered species. Jet the Corroboree frog is happily taking care of the tadpole ponds when the water starts to dry up and his family’s eggs are threatened. He goes to visit Grandmother Frog to find out why and she tells him about the summers that are getting hotter and the careless humans who are leaving their rubbish around. When a boy and his father arrive to go fishing in the nearby river, Jet seizes the opportunity to show them how humans are threatening the very existence of his species.

Look & See Australian Animals: This little gem of a book captures the shenanigans of some very cheeky Australian animals. From a kangaroo that hops free, to a dingo that howls with might, this playful story takes a different look at some quintessential Australian animals

Marngrook: The Story of Aussie Rules: Based on the sometimes controversial theory of how Australian Rules Football developed from marngrook’, a ball game played by Aboriginal people in north west Victoria more than 150 years ago. The story takes place at the foot of Duwul, the highest mountain in the spectacular Grampians region of north west Victoria and the traditional country of the Djab-Wurrung and Jardwadjali clans. When Wawi notices that the children only have old toys to play with, he goes for a walk to see what he can find.

Spinifex Mouse is the heart-warming tale of Cheeky, a Spinifex hopping mouse, who lives in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. Cheeky is an adventurous little mouse who loves to leap high into the air and practice acrobatic tricks. Every morning, when his family have returned to their burrow to sleep after a night’s foraging, Cheeky sneaks out again to look for more food and practice his flips. Each day, he ventures a little further from the burrow. One morning, when Cheeky is far from home, he shows off his clever tricks in front of a hungry snake and becomes swept up in a heart-stopping and very risky adventure.

Sugarbag is an adventure story of two young brothers, Jimmy and Max, who are on their way to visit their grandfather. On the way, they encounter a tiny native bee and hope it will lead them to some delicious sugarbag. Sugarbag is a favourite treat for Aboriginal people. We call it ngarruu. When Grandfather was a little boy, he went hunting for ngarruu with his father,’ Jimmy explained proudly. Sugarbag is the European word for the honey produced by the stingless bee. The boys go racing through the bush in pursuit of the bee hoping it will lead them to its hive.

My Country: This book is playfully illustrated by the author’s mother Sally Morgan and tells a delightful story of a little girl free to roam on land, sea and in the sky. The girl is transported to all sorts of magical places and even dances in the clouds and down a rainbow. She encounters the morning star, the red desert and the whispering wind. As we travel with her the bush animals come out to greet her until she settles down to ‘sleep among the ghost gums’. The book overall celebrates a child’s world in simple, lyrical prose, and is beautifully illustrated and designed for younger children.

Two Mates: The true story of the special mateship between two boys who have grown up together in Broome in Australia’s north west. Jack is Indigenous and Raf is a non-Indigenous boy who has spina bifida. The boys share their daily life as they search for hermit crabs, go hunting for barni, fish for salmon, explore the markets, eat satays and dress up as superheros. The fact that Raf is in a wheelchair is only revealed at the end of the story. Includes information about spina bifida.
